DaimlerChrysler AG has recently opened a new assembly plant located in Ladson, South Carolina. During the opening ceremony in the new assembly plant, Wilfried Porth, Head of the Mercedes-Benz Vans business unit of DaimlerChrysler AG, said:
"The Dodge Sprinter and Freightliner Sprinter set standards in their industry safety, variability and environmental protection. We are proud to offer our latest products on the MPV market as American, shortly after its introduction. I thank all colleagues who made the opening of this plant possible today through their personal efforts and commitment. "
Although DaimlerChrysler plant, there is no new Mercedes-Benz E-Class models like the E 320 with Mercedes In 320, the new assembly plant in South Carolina produce only more popular in North America Sprinter Van. "To that plug-in hybrid technology to move forward, a leap forward in battery technology is necessary. The systems of energy storage in Fleet Dodge Sprinter PHEV concept will provide valuable field experience opportunities with the lithium-ion technology. "
As part of a program test fleet for the Chrysler Group, Auburn Hills Car based deployment of about 20 units of the Dodge Sprinter plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) in the United States. According to Chrysler Group, the Dodge Sprinter PHEV can achieve maximum autonomy to run 20 miles solely on electricity. Electricity comes from a Lithium-ion battery that provides more storage capacity compared to nickel-metal hydride (NiMH). The Dodge Sprinter PHEV has a switch on the dashboard that lets the driver manually or automatically switch between two modes of conduct.
