Coastal Usa

Why the American West so sparsely populated, compared to the northeast?
When I say "American West" I do not speak away from the coast of California (which is already overcrowded, where he is). I mean, Northwest and Rocky Mountain states, the heart and the plains. I asked this question before and some said it was due to lack of water, but this is not true. Although several states (including Arizona, New Mexico and Utah) are scarce water, other states like Oregon and Montana that have a lot of it, but they have very few people who live. People are really so selfish that they need to live 5 minutes walk from the beach? We're a large country with much land and water but people just seem to want to gather in cities and overpopulated jeoparize of the most important health and public order to have a condo overlooking the ocean. Overcrowding is a problem but a bad distribution further.
No discredit to the lack of water too quickly. Even states that are very humid. The lack of available drinking water in quantities sufficient to support development has recently become something that we can overcome and even then at great expense. The lack of waterways was also a major barrier to inward when the costs are met. Up that the national chain and the roads program early 1800, the United States expanded west of the Appalachians, he was too elusive. Climate and ground were also major obstacles to an early, only because the promise of a reward for Oregon or California was so great that many people would dare risk the voyage in 1800. Another important reason is simply that it was not solved until the two coasts. The areas are growing and may one day rival the densest parts of the country for the people, just look at the recent growth of Denver and Phoenix as examples. However, both coasts are being created in the 1600s, while the large-scale colonization of the interior has not started before 1800. It takes time to settle an area. There was no reliable access trip to the railroad reached the area at the end of 1800, and the national highway system in 1900. Now with highways and airports, the sector is much more accessible, and growing. The mid-west also had a much stronger resistance indigenous to the solution of any of the coast. Disease and a military imbalance eliminated any significant resistance East Coast, and the Aboriginal residents of the West Coast became the center of the Spanish missions, and above all learn to live together. However, the first Spanish expeditions in the areas plants have been systematically exterminated by the attacks, and shipments to the American West found natural coastal displaced, who had learned to defend themselves much stronger and Great Plains nations. This is one reason many of these nations still exist, often over large areas of their home territory. And there's always reason to protect much of this land. Costs have been developed well before the interest in preserving the land has been institutionalized on government land. Even ignoring the parks and forests protected BLM and military control of large portions of land, larger than many Eastern states in the West. Some are leased for agriculture, livestock, forestry, mining, etc., but many are off limits. This may, of course, to prevent large areas from becoming ever developed. There is also an effect of the weight of people who want to live other people. There is always the settlers who want to engage in new areas, which If successful, then attract other people, most people choose to live near the city and areas. Something that has to do with the desire to be close to cultural centers, usually located in cities. Some of this has to do with risk management. If something happening to your neighbor is 20 feet away, could help. If the nearest neighbor is 100 miles away, you're on your own for a while. This will prevent people dispersed too quickly in new territories. Again, this effect is the reduction of modern communications, but not disappeared. I am sure that these are almost all reasons, but still stand out as some of the key.
